CPU constrained

Tue Aug 5 21:14:30 BST 2008

At my mid-year review last week I mentioned to my boss I was getting a bit frustrated at not really, you know, writing software very often; despite a job title which would probably suggest to most folks a high concentration on the above.

He wasn't able to help too much, pointing out that there wasn't really enough fun work to go around, however we did agree that some extra-curricular projects to stoke the old fires of creativity might be a good displacement activity.

As such, I thought I'd do a bit of kernel testing as an entry into contributing to the Linux kernel. To this end, I downloaded the current stable snapshot last night and set about building it for my Thinkpad T23. Forty minutes later, it was still going. I eventually cancelled the job so I could switch the PC off and go to bed.

Possibly something with a bit more poke than a PIII is required.
