The sun hides, shrouded by a fine freezing fog that buries everything in unusual distances. From the side of the road the cars look like cats prowling through the mist, blindly feeling their way through the banks and layers with butter-yellow beams.
Around each streetlamps a halo hangs, a little shawl of brightness wrapped around the bulb. Away in the dark reaches of peripheral vision grey stone walls lurk and creep.
